Philosophy
The department of Music Performance provides the professional music training and
performance experiences that maximize students’ abilities and enhance their love of
music and art. Our focal goal is to create qualified performers with an understanding of
the role and the benefit of music in modern society with a moralistic approach to their
professional life. Career preparation is an important part of the student/faculty mentor
relationship. The program aims not only to increase the students’ ability to contribute to
the expansion of Thai music industry but also to help them become the leaders of
tomorrow in global music world.
Our students will develop the study skills and methodology necessary to continue a lifelong
learning process throughout their musical careers, and the ability to cope with and
adjust to changes in the fast moving field of music.
Objectives
- To provide learning experiences that integrate performance, composition,
arrangement and technology with individual creativity, to prepare graduate to be
musicians for careers as performers, writers, teachers and producers.
- To provide a supportive program of study and activities which contribute to the
students’ personal well-being and social development, so as to make them
qualified graduates who can integrate their professional growth and intellectual
development with their interpersonal skills.
- To develop in musicians an awareness of the music to encourage self-realization
and mastery, social understanding and an appreciation of the value of musical
service to our community and culture, as well as the necessity of continuous
improvement in their careers.
Graduation Requirements
Assumption University confers the degree of Bachelor of Fine Arts (Music
Performance) upon students who meet all the requirements as follows:
- Completion of the total number of credits of the curriculum
- Cumulative grade point average of at least 2.00
- Participation in 16 sessions of the Ethics for Business Seminar
- Library and financial clearance with the University
- Good behavior and discipline
- Participation in events organized by the School of Music
(MU 7111 Concert Attendance I-VIII)
Admission Qualifications
- M.6 certificate (grade 12) or its equivalent as issued by the Ministry of Education
- Clear record of good behavior
- Good physical and mental health
- Knowledge of English and Mathematics
- Basic knowledge in music theory and good practical skill that will be evaluated by an
entrance examination and an instrumental/vocal audition. The University will give
exemption from the audition to any students with at least a certificate of Trinity
College grade IV, ABRSM grade IV or their equivalent.
Selection Procedure
- All entering students who plan to major in music performance must demonstrate their
performance ability by auditioning with faculty members. Based on this audition, the
Department of Music Performance will determine the student's admissibility into a
specific major area.
- Students who are not qualified for admission into the department may be placed on trial
status. This will allow them to enroll in basic musicianship classes and to pursue applied
study for one semester. Probationary students may use the semester-ending jury as an
audition for reconsideration of their admission.
